The MacSB Community Ad Server

Update 5/27/2007:

The ad server is up and the beta phase is running. Contact me if you want to get in ;-)

Daniel Jalkut came up with the idea of a community-driven ad-network for Mac Software developers. The software to implement this is rather trivial to write for somebody with a web-technology background and a weekend of time. I have the background but not the time. Neither has Daniel or anybody else in #macsb. While I’d like to kick off the necessary development, I have too many things I do “for free” already. So I’d need a monetary motivation to get things going.

If you, a Mac software developer, are interested in seeing this project come to life you can help out. I’ve set up a PayPal donation drop-off to collect as much money as you’re willing to spend on this. To get things running and to let it run for a while, I’d like to get the money to buy myself a ADC Select Membership: $499 (or ca. €370).

The deal

When the target amount is reached, I begin writing a community ad-server as described by Daniel with a minimal feature set (outlined below) and commit to maintain it as an OpenSource project.

If the target isn’t reached, I can decide if I do it anyway and keep the money. Or you get your money back, sans half of what PayPal keeps as charges for both transactions.

Donations so far: €162 Thanks:
