As Freisatz, Johannes and I got a contract-project to develop a small website with some very specific needs. This Saturday, 10am, all went live.
Every ten years, the Skulptur Projekte take place in Münster. They are internationally-acknowledged art exhibition that runs runs throughout the summer. All over the city artists created and create some sort of sculpture. The Skulptur Projekte are part of the Grand Tour 2007 complementing the 52nd international Art exhibition of the bienanale di Venezia, Art 38 Basel and the documenta 12. It takes place under the auspices of German Federal President Horst Köhler.
Aequivalenz. Shattered Stones. is a prject by Germany-born, London-based artist Gustav Metzger. In remembrance of the destruction of Münster (Germany) and Coventry (UK) the 1940s, Metzger envisioned a scheme that recreates the randomness of dropping bombs — only less destructive. Using a publicly displayed map of Münster, each day a random place in the city is selected. A set of large stones, from just a few to a couple of dozens in number, are carried to and set up at that place. Then a picture is taken and put on the map for documentation. The map is realized as a website that also gives more background information about the entire project. Coventry was invited to run the same project simultaneously.
This had to be done in a very short period of time and we managed to deliver a successful project just in time; last Friday, a day before it went live. We experienced a lot of help from the Kulturverein Münster, which hired us. Without the direct feedback and devoted folks running the show, this would not have been possible. Thanks to Imke, Swaantje and Kristina! We also had the pleasure to meet Mr. Metzger in person. He had a clear vision and lots of directions to give us, yet he was humbly pleased with the results the entire team delivered.
This was a fun project to do, too bad, the Skulptur Projekte are only every ten years.
